Your necklace is sterling silver — the charm is stainless steel. Close in colour, not identical, and silver softens to a patina over the years while steel stays bright. We use steel because engraving this small wears smooth on silver.
316L stainless steel
Marine-grade surgical steel — the same alloy used in implants and body jewellery. It won't tarnish, rust or discolour in water, and it's about twice as hard as silver, so fine engraving stays sharp instead of wearing smooth against clothing. Very low nickel release, so it's well tolerated by most people with metal sensitivities.
